“I would give you the moon if I could.”
A classic lovers’ line perhaps, but one that ultimately tells you nothing. Keep your dramatic hypothetical declarations to yourself and tell me instead what you will do, because you can. Will you hold me when I’ve had a bad day? Will you wipe my tears, cook me my favourite meal? Now a commitment like that – it is a moon wrapped in brown paper. A small, pocket-sized moon. At first glance, a humble gift, but one that will see you through the night. It unveils itself in layers, it’s worth only growing with time. This moon’s iridescent glow will shine through even when there are clouds overhead; it is the greatest moon you can offer me.
At dVerse tonight, we’ve been challenged to write a piece of prose under 144 words, including the line “it is a moon wrapped in brown paper”. This line is from the poem Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy, from which I learned that love is actually an onion. It reminded me of other “moon” related lines/lyrics and hence the mini rant/musing.

A succint, inescapable grounding — yes, all the great delcarations, or promising moons and loving to the moon and backs…but what does it really mean? Very nicely written and a nice philosophy..as well as practical…and sincere, real..
